“If We Can Just Save One Person, It Would Be Worth It.”

About city walk

City Walk’s transitional housing serves those who have struggled with substance abuse and/or chronic homelessness, as well as ex-offenders who have become homeless after being released from incarceration. City Walk provides evidence-based assessment and screening to identify targeted interventions for participants. These interventions are captured on a personalized transition plan, along with goals to bolster their prospects for success and reduce the chances of recidivism.

Our housing programs help residents identify the issues that led to their homelessness and/or incarceration and give them the tools they need to stabilize their lives, while providing a safe home so they can thrive.

While in the program, participants have the opportunity to focus on their future and improve their lives through counseling, classes, meetings, volunteer opportunities, work therapy, job skills training, work experience opportunities, and assistance searching for and obtaining employment.

There is increasingly prevalent evidence that the community’s most vulnerable residents are falling through the cracks when it comes to navigating the complex local healthcare system. These difficulties contribute to a number of deleterious outcomes, including criminal recidivism, mental health destabilization, untreated, life-threatening health problems, and recurring substance abuse issues.

Low income participants acquire vocational competencies and cognitive-behavioral techniques to prepare them for successful entry-level employment. Some have even chosen to become entrepreneurs and start their own businesses.

Participants learn communication, conflict resolution, and life skills. They benefit from numerous complementary supportive services, including life coaching, financial coaching and soft skills instruction. They are connected to meaningful job leads through employers that have been cultivated by City Walk. And they are supported in their employment through one-on-one job coaching and job retention counseling. The program also includes a social enterprise business, City Walk Thrift Store, which serves as a real-life employment training opportunity for program participants.
